Liquid Intelligent Technologies brings free connectivity to 45 South African schools, expanding digital access for learners and educators

Liquid Intelligent Technologies, a business of Cassava Technologies, a global technology leader of African heritage, has connected 45 KwaZulu-Natal public schools in Umlazi and Pinetown, bringing reliable internet access to thousands of learners and educators in the region. This milestone brings the national connectivity programme to 65% completion, marking a decisive advance in closing South Africa’s digital divide.

Each school is provided with internet speeds of at least 10 Mbps and a 500GB fair use limit, allowing learners and educators to access online resources, stream lessons, and stay connected throughout the school day. “Connectivity is a catalyst for change,” said Ziaad Suleman, Chief Executive Officer of Cassava Technologies in South Africa and Botswana. “By connecting schools in Umlazi and Pinetown, we are not only providing internet access; we are opening doors to opportunity, equipping learners to compete in a digital world, and strengthening communities through inclusive education.”

For many of these schools, this is the first opportunity to integrate digital learning into the classroom. Learners now have access to online curricula, global educational resources, and research platforms. Teachers gain modern tools to enhance lessons, streamline administration, and communicate more effectively. In communities with limited connectivity, this initiative is transforming the delivery of education.

This rollout forms part of Liquid’s broader programme to connect 298 public service institutions nationwide, with 194 connected to date. These include schools, healthcare facilities, libraries, and traditional authority offices. The phased delivery continues until 2029. As part of its long-term commitment to the programme, Liquid assumes responsibility for the maintenance and security of the connectivity infrastructure installed at the schools, ensuring reliable and problem-free access. As the rollout continues, each new connection strengthens South Africa’s education system and builds momentum toward a digitally inclusive future. Liquid is equipping schools with reliable infrastructure, enabling learners to thrive in a digital economy and ensuring no one is left behind.
